Why silicone over plastic?

When you see "BPA-free plastic" on a label, it doesn't mean chemical-free. Plastics are petroleum-based products and manufacturers aren't always transparent about which chemicals they add. One chemical scientists have found to be more toxic than BPA is BPS, and it's commonly used as a replacement.

Food-grade silicone contains none of these chemicals. It's non-toxic, hypoallergenic and has no open pores to harbour bacteria. It's odour and stain-resistant, doesn't crack or fade with temperature changes, and outlasts plastic by years. When it does eventually reach end of life, it breaks down into inorganic silica, CO₂ and water vapour: not microplastics.
